Musical Monday: Halloween Hits

halloween dance

My kids fondly remember listening and dancing to Halloween hits during last years Halloween themed dance classes. So, it was no surprise that as soon as they knew Halloween was around the corner, they started to ask to listen to some of their favourites.

Below are some of our favourites that I’ll be using during classes over the next two weeks. Each of these songs can be found on iTunes!

1. Monster Mash by Bobby Pickett

Most everyone will remember Monster Mash as it’s a cult classic. The video below dates back to the 1970s when the cartoon Groovie Goolies was popular. Your little ones will enjoy seeing some spooky, yet fun, Halloween characters.

2. Ghostbusters by Ray Parker Jr.

Ghostbusters is another classic. For anyone who grew up in the 80s, you might recall the cartoon that aired. The below video is from Just Dance 2014. Play it with your littles and see if you can bust a ghost move!

3. The Skeleton Dance by Super Simple Learning

The Skeleton Dance focuses on where our different bones/body parts are. While dancing touch the different body parts. Then follow the songs directions, such as “put your hands to the left” and “wiggle, wiggle, wiggle den bones.”

4. Knock, Knock, Trick or Treat? by Super Simple Learning

This is my kids favourite! They love to pretend to be each of the characters described in the song. During class, we practice different gross motor movements through the space- the ghost sways; the cowboy gallops; the witch slides; the monster stomps; the ballerina dances on tippy toes; and the pirate slashes through the air with his/her arms.

Happy dancing! And, Happy Halloween!
